Wood Kiln Unloading in Seagrove by Clifton Dowell (NC)

Father and son potters Michael and Levi Mahan, of From The Ground Up Pottery in the Seagrove area of North Carolina, unload a wood kiln on Sept. 27, 2022. During the firing, which takes about two days, the kiln is monitored constantly to maintain a peak temperature between 2,100 and 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit for around 18 hours.
